Gena Pruetz, MSPT:

Physical Therapist

Gena grew up in a town called Rosedale in Queens, New York.  She attended high school at Lawrence Woodmere Academy, where she was 1 of 30 graduates in the class of 1996.

She first developed an interest in physical therapy during high school when she took a summer position as a physical therapy aide in an outpatient orthopedic clinic.  From this experience she was inspired to learn more about the human body and how it works. In her high school yearbook Gena was predicted by her classmates to be a very successful physical therapist.

After High School Gena entered a combined Bachelors/Masters Program for physical therapy at Boston University and she could not wait to start learning how to help people recover from their injuries, neurological deficits, and surgeries. In May 2000, Gena graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelors of Science in Health Studies. During the next year and half she worked very hard and received her Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy in January 2002. In graduate school Gena completed internships in outpatient orthopedics, sports medicine, and neurological physical therapy. One of her most memorable experiences was an affiliation at NYU medical center working in both inpatient and outpatient pediatrics. Gena then moved across the country to Los Angeles where her husband was completing his medical residency.

Gena wasted no time once arriving in Southern California and took a position at Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica where she had the opportunity to work as an acute care inpatient physical therapist.  She dedicated six and a half great years of her time and effort to Saint John’s Health Center and learned the ins and outs of this setting. Many of the patients that Gena started on the road to recovery at the hospital would often finish their treatment at the Cypress Center. This left Gena wanting to not only help start her patients on their initial rehabilitation program, but she also wanted to help them complete their recovery. This is why Gena decided to join the Cypress Center in June, 2008. She is very grateful for this opportunity, and is extremely excited to be working at this location.

When Gena is not working she enjoys spending time with her hard working husband Jay and her extremely lovable dog Milo. She loves exploring new restaurants, drinking wine with friends, going to the beach and to the movies. She loves to travel, but spends most of her vacation time returning to New York to see her parents, family, and closest friends whom she misses on a daily basis. She keeps in shape by working out at the gym, doing Krav Maga, mat pilates, and power yoga.
