Meet Us
Meghan B. Tierney, MPT:
Physical Therapist
Meghan was born and raised in a suburb of Philadelphia. She grew up playing multiple sports, studying ballet, and fiercely following Philadelphia sports teams. Unfortunately, she was also very clumsy, and a few key injuries led to an interest in physical therapy. She received both her Bachelors of Health Science and her Masters of Physical Therapy from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. While at Duquesne, she played on the inaugural Division I Lacrosse team as a captain, and was also fortunate enough to achieve all-league and Academic All-American honors.
One of her final internships in graduate school led her to
Phoenix, Arizona, where she eventually moved to begin her
career. During her five years in Phoenix she worked
at two different outpatient physical therapy clinics specializing
in sports medicine, the second of which was home to a nationally
known baseball rehabilitation facility. Her continuing
education background has included numerous courses in manual
therapy, differential diagnosis, and even the education of
physical therapy students. She has most recently completed
her Pilates certification through Body
Arts and Science International. She has treated
many athletes, from high school students to professional baseball
players, golfers and football players. She especially
enjoys seeing high school athletes, and has treated patients
who excel in everything from swimming to volleyball.
Her love of sports led her to pursue coaching, and she coached
high school girl’s lacrosse in Arizona for the three
years.
As a former dancer, Meghan became interested in Pilates as a form of rehabilitation. A mat course prompted her to begin using the techniques in her practice. This interest and a growing tire of the desert life led her to the Cypress Center, where she has become a great addition by bringing her love of sports and experience in sports medicine to the Palisades. She has also assumed the unofficial role of Social Chair, as she thoroughly enjoys planning happy hours, parties, and other get-togethers. Besides charting the progress of her beloved Philadelphia teams, she plans to become involved in helping women’s lacrosse grow in southern California. She is also a tremendous music aficionado and spends much of her time and hard-earned money on new music and going to concerts. Her other passion is her friends and family, most of whom are back east, and she can often be found taking long weekends to go back for weddings or other gatherings. |
