Samantha Wood, MPT, MBA:
Physical Therapist, BASI certified Pilates instructor, Co-Owner of the Cypress Center
Samantha
is one of the owners of the Cypress Center. She specializes
in orthopedics, sports therapy and functional rehabilitation.
Sam is also a Certified Pilates Instructor, trained through
Body
Arts and Science International. She is a member
of the Sports Medicine section of the American Physical Therapy
Association.
Sam grew up in Santa Barbara County, CA and attended Righetti High School in Santa Maria. After high school she moved to LA and attended USC, where she earned a B.S. in Exercise Physiology and a minor in Business. After two years of traveling the world, Sam decided it was time to start her real career. She attended Western University of Health Sciences and received a Master of Physical Therapy (M.P.T.) degree. Recently, Sam returned to USC, this time to the Marshall School of Business, and earned her MBA in their Executive Program.
Sam’s interest in physical therapy began when she worked in the training room at the University of Southern California. She enjoyed working with injured athletes and helping them return to their sports. She worked with athletes from all teams while at U.S.C. but specialized in volleyball, football and track.
After college, Sam worked for the Golden Door Spa and Cunard Cruise Lines. She taught aerobics and managed fitness personnel on five different cruise ships that sailed to the Caribbean, Alaska, South America, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.
Sam has worked with many professional athletes. While at HealthSouth in Arizona, Sam managed the sports medicine complex at America West Arena and was the Physical Therapist for the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Coyotes, Phoenix Mercury and Arizona Rattlers.
When not working, Sam enjoys travel, Pilates, yoga, hiking, scuba diving, surfing, mountain biking, and hanging out at the beach. Last year, she was lucky enough to spend two months in Costa Rica surfing and learning to speak Spanish, and she hopes to be able to return to there often. She would also like to travel to many other international destinations although she loves living in Southern California and is honored to call Santa Monica home.
