Testimonials

Dear Sam,

I imagine that it is more the exception than the rule to have a patient actually complete a full course of treatment in physical therapy.  Having spent the past year under the care of your head P.T. Alison Klossner, I have now completed the full treatment, and would like to provide my feedback about Alison as a clinician.

Although I was operated on by one of the best surgeons in Los Angeles, it was Alison, my physical therapist, who I credit with getting me through a rough year involving multiple traumas to my body.  These included a chronically swollen and arthritic left knee; a severed then surgically reconstructed ACL with torn meniscus within my right knee, a painful lower back, a sprained ankle; and a case of Achilles tendonitis.  After a year under Alison’s care I am actually stronger and more flexible than I was before I was injured.  I am 50 years of age and am again engaging in my passion:  playing competitive basketball three times a week.  I cannot adequately express how much this means to me.  Alison grasped the significance that playing basketball had to me and guided me through my rehabilitation as an athlete, not as an invalid.  Her collaborative approach, emphasizing performance over pathology, resonated with me and was highly motivating.

Alison also helped ensure that my traumas remained physical, not psychological.  I secured myself in her confidence that she knew what to do to help me recover and, most importantly, that I would ultimately be OK.  She extended herself, remembering to look into research studies, or poll the other P.T.’s to get consensus on some issue relevant to my case.  I felt like she had an investment in my recovery.

As professional educator at the graduate level (and a practicing psychotherapist) I am quite familiar with key core qualities of effective clinicians.  I assess clinical competence for a living, and have mentored over one thousand graduate students in clinical psychology over the past 17 years.  I recognize in Alison attributes that I have learned to associate with the crème of the crop.  Alison melds intellectual prowess, advanced knowledge, and experience into a wisdom that seems to belie her age.  She is willing to take measured risks that are informed by sound clinical judgment and protected by professional boundaries.  Her interventions are calculated with precision, yet they are often delivered with a sugar coating of humorous benter and dry wit…making the pill a delight to swallow.

I have referred patients to Alison through the Cypress Center (including my wife) and will continue to do so.  I want to thank, Sam, for creating such a professional, yet friendly and unpretentious environment at the Center.  The staff and therapists have always been warm and courteous.  Also, I have appreciated the comfortable ambiance that you have created.  There is usually progressive music playing in the background, and humor is encouraged.  These things also made a difference to me in my recovery.

Sincerely,

Bill Rolfe, Ph.D.
